MELENCOLIA-MORE SHIPS AND ANOTHER BOAT CARRYING A CHILD-PART 8

Copyright Dr. Elizabeth Garner June 26, 2014

We are becoming astounded at the depth of the encoding in Melencolia and we have found mores ships and a boat with a child in it.  The depiction of all that is so tightly encoded is extremely complex and thus this illustration is very crowded with annotation.  To compensate for the fact that further annotation would cover up the evidence, a detailed explanation of what you are looking at will be given.

More ships and a boat with a child under Melencolia's left wing
More ships and a boat with a child under Melencolia’s left wing

To give you the basic outlines of what occurs  in this part of the print under the left wing, the following is annotated

THE SHIPS

1.  The blue circle outlines the bottom ship which appears to be the usual carrack ship depicted in other parts of the print

2. The yellow oval outlines the second ship which also appears to be the usual carrack depicted in other parts of the print

3. The dark purple circle outlines the third ship which seems to be a ship of a different type, yet determined, but an ocean sailing vessel

4.  All the ships are heading in the same direction as other ships depicted in other parts of the print

THE BOAT

The red rectangle outlines the boat with the child in it.

THE SHIP OUTLINED IN BLUE

1. The blue arrow points to the top mast of this ship

2. the yellow arrow points to the bottom hull of this ship

THE SHIP OUTLINED IN THE YELLOW OVAL

1. The orange arrow points to the front part of this ship

2. The pink arrow points to the back part of the ship where there is some back masthead in which there is encased a Jewish star in the center of this masthead

THE SHIP OUTLINED IN THE DARK PURPLE CIRCLE

The green arrow is pointing to either a “6,” an upside down “9,” or a “G”

THE BOAT

1. The red arrow points to the face of the child in the boat

2. The purple arrow points to the Jewish star above the child’s head

3.  The boat is not an ocean going vessel and does not appear to be headed in the direction of the ships

4. Thus, at this point we have 5 ships in the harbor, and this boat with a Jewish child in it
