We learned in Part I that the major clue of the 1521 St. Jerome painting, made for the Faktor of Portugal, Rodrigo (Rui) Fernandes de Almada, is totally wrong. We know from these other articles referred to in Part I that Dürer was already telling us by making the lower part of the skull, the jawbone of the ass, the most powerful weapon in the Hebrew bible, that he was passing messages to the Portuguese Jews, suddenly under intense pressure from the Inquisition even though almost all of them had either escaped from Portugal or had converted on the outside to Catholicism (the Marranos, the Converso, and the crypto-Jews). He used this jawbone of the ass coding often. It indicates who has the most power in the composition, and he tells us that the Jews will overcome because of what Jerome is pointing to directly under his finger on the skull. See link
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE PAINTING?
And we also learned that Jerome, the translator of the Vulgate bible is never to be depicted with anything but a bible in front of him. And here we have a math page in a bible with a prominent PHI in the upper left hand corner of the book and a circle with a dot in its center as the first symbol on the right hand page.
WHAT IS DÜRER TELLING US?
As it turns, the math that is in front of us is sacred geometry. PHI and PI are two major math symbols that represent the Universe and how the Universe operates.

But what is critical about what the math says in Dürer’s depiction of this math book is that it is representing the last book of the Jewish Torah, Deuteronomy. Which is phenomenal. But that’s NOT where the most important message derives. It derives from what’s under the open math page.
If you actually look at how the book is constructed you see the book is constructed of folios that are bound together. This is how they made books back then. What we have are 11 more folios other than the folio open to the page that indicates Deuteronomy. So there’s really 12 folios-as in the twelve tribes of Israel/Judea.
Underneath the open page is a folio that is damaged, which was Dürer’s way of getting his message across. He’s telling us to pay attention to the folio that FOLLOWS Deuteronomy, which in the Hebrew bible is JOSHUA.
ST. JEROME SCREWS UP BADLY
This is where St. Jerome screws up so badly that he can possibly be blamed for the creation of anti-semitism in the world, for Jerome translated JOSHUA into JESUS 11 times. And THIS IS WHAT Dürer was bringing to our attention for the final time. JEROME screwed up in the translation, changing JOSHUA TO JESUS 11 TIMES, TOTALLY BASTARDIZING the HEBREW. It was the best and worst PR job ever done.
BUT WHAT DOES IT SAY IN JOSHUA?
Joshua is the Book that tells us how Joshua fulfilled Moses prophecy of having the Promised Land. It’s not for the faint of heart for it describes that Joshua was to take the entire land promised by God to Moses descendants by wiping out all the existent peoples in the area. ALL OF THEM, so that no idolatry would infect the Jews who had been wandering around for 38 years waiting to get to what God had promised and basically had backslipped badly. After all there was no internet or social media appliances to amuse them for these 38 years.
Joshua achieves the goal, the walls of Jericho come tumbling down, but he screwed up also, he didn’t totally wipe out the Canaanites as God had commanded. And according to Jewish writings, it’s the fact that Joshua did NOT ensure all the Canaanites were gone that caused the ultimate re-enslavement of the Jewish people, and the Diaspora of the Jews.
SO WHAT IS DÜRER TELLING US?
The message that Dürer is getting out to the Portuguese, the Sephardim, the intellectuals of Europe under extreme pressure from the Portuguese Inquisition is that they are not following God’s law again by the mass conversions. And they MUST SAVE THEMELVES however they have to do it.
Don’t for a minute think that Dürer is not also castigating Christians because he is also castigating them in what he thinks is a bogus religion, Christianity. His message to the Jews is that they non-thinking sheep in having become Marranos, conversos, and cypto-jews. But that is calling the kettle black. Dürer did not have the guts to declare his Judaism overtly, he just left his encodings, he liked his fine living very well.
It’s just the desperate plea of an extremely spoiled rich brat who became world famous and his opinions. Like Donald Trump.
But what Dürer is also telling the Portuguese Jews is to “get out.” Save themselves, he tried long ago to warn the Ashkenasim Jewry, the Eastern European Jews, and he could do nothing to save them other than to warn them.
But here he is telling the Portuguese to get OUT of Europe any way they can. And he expects when those still in power, the Conversos, who see this painting to take heed of the political winds that are sweeping across Europe. GET OUT!
