At its heart is Burne-Jones’ 19th century Pygmalion series, which encompasses the five themes explored in the exhibition.

These are the body as a focus for the artist’s observation, the creation of the ‘ideal’ body, the mutation of the body, art as a means of memorialising the body, and the body as a vehicle for the artist’s imagination and fantasy.
